The Difference Between a Computer Surge Protector and an EcoStrip Power Strip

If you have a computer and a lot of different devices, you likely have a power strip, or a computer surge protector, plugged into the outlet. Many people buy a computer surge protector without understanding why you need it. These people are, of course, enjoying the benefits of a computer surge protector, but at the same time, they are not understanding how computers and their peripheral devices consume power. With an EcoStrip power strip, the average homeowner will be able to enjoy all of the benefits of a surge protector for a computer, but they will also enjoy one big advantage.

First, the similarities between the two are of great benefit to anyone. Both protectors allow you to plug multiple devices into them, which is very convenient in the average home office. Between laptop computers, desktop computers, speaker systems, fans, printers, cell phone chargers, and even televisions, the computer area of an average home is filled with machines and devices that need to be powered by electricity. This is the most noticeable advantage of any surge protector, and most commonly relate to it.

However, at the same time, the best surge protector for a computer also protects these devices from a power surge. A power surge is when the voltage of an outlet exceeds the normal amount. The standard voltage if 120 volts, but if this voltage spikes for an extended period of time, it can do major damage to any of these devices. This damage can be irreparable, and result in needing to replace these items. With a computer surge protector, you establish a barrier between your devices and the voltage, so that a surge will not damage the devices.

But the difference between a regular computer surge protector and a smart power strip from EcoStrip is what you save with the power strip from EcoStrip. Most devices use up a certain amount of standby power, or "vampire power", where electricity is used, but the device is not currently in use. A computer surge protector does nothing to address this, but the power strip from EcoStrip is able to detect when devices are not in use and shuts off the power going to those devices, saving you up to $100 per year on your electricity bill, and conserving energy at the same time.
